On the Move

Makenna is starting to move around a lot on her stomach. She doesn't move forward, but she does move backwards. She is so funny because she scoots backwards and then gets upset that she is moving away from her toys. She has also gotten very good at moving in a circle. If I put her in the floor and go into the kitchen for just a minute and come back she will be facing the opposite direction that I put her. When we play with her in the floor she makes a complete circle several times in just a few minutes. She isn't crawling yet but I don't think that is far away. She pushes up on her stomach really well and has pushed up on all four for a few seconds several times. There have been a few times when she has scooted about half way across the floor. Although most times she doesn't cover a lot of ground, she moves a lot. A few months ago she hated being on her stomach and I had a really hard time getting her to be on her stomach for 5 minutes. Now she seems to really like it. Now we can play in the floor for a long time before she gets upset. She is growing so fast. Before I know it I'll be posting about her walking :(

No More Bumbo

A few weeks ago I came home from running errands and DJ told me that Makenna had fallen out of her bumbo. Thankfully she was sitting on the floor in the office while DJ was working on the computer. He said he didn't see how she fell he just saw her on the ground. Well a few days ago I found out how she fell out. I only put her in the Bumbo on the bed while I sit on the bed and fold clothes since I know she fell out a few weeks ago. I was sitting on the bed and she was at the head of the bed in the middle. I was folding clothes and watching TV and all the sudden Makenna was in my lap. How did that happen? So I put her back in it and watched her. She was trying to get in my lap and so she was leaning over the side trying to grab my shirt. With a few grunts and kicks of her leg (with her mouth hanging open) she was able to propel herself over the side of the Bumbo. I thought it was so funny. She just looked at me like, hi mom. I can't believe she is getting so big. She seems to be growing so fast, I can hardly keep up. So, needless to say, no more Bumbo.

My New Toy

For my birthday this year DJ got me a laptop. Ours died about a year or so ago and we have been looking at buying a new one since then. We almost decided to buy one last Christmas but for some reason we decided not to. Since I decided to start a blog, I decided I would really like to have a computer that was primarily mine that I could work on. I thought a laptop would be nice because that way I could DJ and I could be in the same room even if I was on the computer. Before we bought the laptop we were rarely in the same room. When he would come home he would get on the computer which is in the office. Then when he was done he would go to the living room and watch TV or play video games and I would go into the office. So, we never seemed to be in the same room. He also does a lot of work for Grass Guys on the computer so I wasn't able to get on it when I wanted to because he would be working. So, he bought me a laptop. It is AWESOME!!! Of course I'm on it right now. I love it. It's a Hewlit Packard (I don't know how to spell that) with a 15.6" wide screen. It is wonderful. I don't know all the specks you will have to talk to DJ about that. I just love that I can sit on the couch and work on the computer. I have to say that it makes me feel pretty cool. I'm not a stylish or hip (yeah that word makes me sound old) person but having the new laptop makes me feel pretty cool. When I told DJ that I wanted a laptop I didn't expect to get one so soon. I thought he would want to look for a long time. If you don't know us you can't fully appreciate that statement. But when we decide to buy something we look at every possible choice and compare prices. Needless to say it takes us a long time to decide to buy something. Well, when I said I wanted a laptop DJ said that we could go to Best Buy the next night. We went to Best Buy and looked and then went back the next night and bought it. Wow! I don't think we've ever bought anything that quick. Needless to say I'm very happy and excited to have my new toy.

My Favorite Part of Being a Mom

So I know a lot of people are going to think this is weird, but my favorite part of being a mom is breastfeeding. Since I love it so much and it is a great passion of mine I thought I would post about it. I love that it is very good for my daughter and gives her lots of immunities along with an numerable amount of other great things. But my favorite part about it is the time we get to spend together. It creates an amazing bond between me and Makenna, one I can't even fully describe. I love when we snuggle in bed in the morning for her early feeding and at night in the rocker before she goes to bed. I love how cute she looks when she eats. I love how when I think she is asleep I try to pull away and she starts sucking frantically as if so say "please don't take it away." I love how it always calms her. I love how she opens her mouth and makes funny sounds when she is getting ready to latch on. I love it when I feel my milk let down and I hear her gulping. These are just a few of the things that I love about nursing. I could go on and on. I know a lot of people are going to think this post is strange but oh well. Makenna is seven months old and I plan on breastfeeding her until she is a year old. I still have several months until I begin weaning her but I already have anxiety about it. I think it is going to be harder for me than it is for her. I'm not sure who is going to miss it more, me or Makenna.

Poop Explosion

Yesterday I was sitting on the couch next to Makenna. She made a cute face so I picked her up to kiss her. When I did I smelled poop. So I took her into her room and laid her on the changing table. When she put her legs up I could see the poop had leaked through her pants. So, I had an idea that this was going to be a big poopy, but really I had no idea! I took her pants off and when I did there was so much poop in her pants that some splattered on my shirt. Then I could see that her it had soaked through her onesie. So I unbuttoned her onesie and she had a HUGE mess of poop coming up the top of her diaper. It was in her belly button and smeared all the way to the top of her chest. Needless to say it took me a long time to clean it up. What made it harder was that I was laughing so hard I couldn't even see straight. Makenna kept looking at me like I was silly and would smile at me every now and then like "What is so funny Mommy?" I finally got her cleaned up and the clothes are still soaking in the sink. As Shannon said, "Oh the joys of motherhood."

Our Trip to Florida

Makenna and I just got back from visiting my mom in Florida. We were there for seven days. We had a great time!!!!!! It was Makenna's first time on an airplane and my first time to travel with her. It went a lot better than I expected. I was amazed at how much stuff I had to pack. Traveling with a baby is a huge undertaking. Going through security is very challenging. I had to take her out of the stroller and put the stroller through the xray machine (along with my shows and bags). Needless to say I had to ask for some help to get this done. Makenna was wonderful on the plane. I nursed her while we were taking off and her ears didn't seem to bother her at all. Someone told me nursing during takeoff and landing would help with their ears. She didn't even seem to notice when we were landing. My ears popped a lot but it didn't seem to notice her. She did played during the first flight on the way there and then she slept during the second flight. She did the same thing on the way back. While in Fl we stayed at my mom's in Ocala for a few days and did some shopping and running around. Then we went to the beach for four days!!! It was beautiful!! We took Makenna to the beach for the first time and she loved the sand but hated the water. She cried when we put her feet in the water. She loved playing in the sand and loved to eat it. She got mad at me when I wouldn't let her put the sand in her mouth. My mom took some wonderful pictures. My mom also had a surprise birthday party for me. It was so much fun. Kassie's mom and sisters and their kids were all there along with Aunt Debbie, Karla, and Mamaw. We had a great time. I got some great gifts and so did Makenna. I will post some of the pictures from our trip soon. While we were in FL Makenna discovered her voice and a new face. She had talked some, off and on, before we left. However, when we got to FL she talked from the time she got up until the time she went to sleep the whole time we were there. Today was our first day home and she talked pretty much all day today. She has also started making a new face that is hilarious and so cute. I will put some pictures up so you can see. She has also gotten very wiggly when you hold her. She is growing up so fast!

Introduction

I saw that Shannon had started a blog. DJ started reading it and I read a few of the posts. I decided that I would really like to try and do a blog. I thought it would be neat to catalog some of my experiences as Makenna's mom. I stole the idea for my name from Shannon, sorry Shannon. She also gave me the idea for some of my posts that I will eventually put up. I have a tendency to start things and not finish them so hopefully I will be able to keep this up. I thought this would be any easy way to keep our friends and family updated on Makenna. Hope everyone enjoys.
